On 18.05.2025, I posted an odd note of 1000 pounds dated June 2024. Since then the Central Bank of Sudan released two more notes of 500 and 2000 pounds both also dated June 2024. Here, I have added the two new notes to my previous post. In addition to this, I wonder if lower denominations are also to be issued as well.
Given the current political crises experiencing in Sudan and high inflation rates, it is not sure if larger denominations will be issued at a later date, as notes issued below may not hold any real value in the economy, especially the country is currently suffering from high inflation rates in excess of 100+%.
Five Hundred Pounds
Back - Confluence of Blue and White Nile in Khartoum. This is a major geographical landmark where the two distinct rivers meet to form the mail Nile. To the locals, the confluence of Blue and White Nile is known as al-Mogran and this intersection separates the city of Khartoum into three parts: Khartoum, North Khartoum and Omdurman. The water from the Blue Nile flows from Ethiopia whilst the water for the White Nile flows from Lake Victoria.
One Thousand Pounds
Back - On the back, all text is printed in English. On the back, the main image is the Bank of Sudan's main office situated at the capital city, Khartoum. Due to the ongoing civil war that started in April 2023, opposing forces had been trying to control the bank from issuing currency in order to cripple the country's economy. Due to the fighting between the two forces, the bank's head office was significantly damaged, as well as other branches across the country. This led to many branches across the country being looted (free money) and destroyed. Given the current situation in the country, it is interesting to know how far this 1000 pounds series will go or will it be replaced at a later date. To the right is the month/year date of June 2024, and three gold bars is also printed above the value of '1000'
Two Thousand Pounds
