Naha ea Lesotho
(Kingdom of Lesotho)
Banka e Kholo ea Lesotho
(Central Bank of Lesotho)
Currency - Loti (LSL)
This is a commemorative note released on 12.07.2023, for the celebration of King Letsie lll's 60th birthday. This is also the first commemorative banknote issued by the Kingdom since gaining independence from the British in 1966.
King Leslie lll (born Seeiso Bereng) was born on 17.07.1963 in Morija, Basutoland (Lesotho). He is the eldest son of King Moshoeshoe ll (born Constantine Bereng Seeiso 1938-1966). King Leslie lll was installed as King of Lesotho following the death of his father on 15.01.1996. However, this is the second time King Leslie lll succeeded to the Lesotho throne as in 1990, he became King of Lesotho when his father Moshoeshoe ll was forced into exile. However, Moshoeshoe ll returned and was restored as King of Lesotho in 1995. He died in 1996 following a car accident.
The design for this note on the front is completely new, but retained the same design on the back as the current 200 maloti previously issued.
The Lesotho Loti currency is at par with the South African Rand.

Below that is the image of a mokorotlo with the number 60 added. Mokorotlo is a type of straw hat widely used for traditional Sotho clothing, and is the national symbol of Lesotho.
Signature - Dr Emmanuel Maluke Letete (tenure 2021-date)
Watermark - King Moshoeshoe l and electrotype 200
Quantity - 5.0 million pieces
Dimensions - 161mm x 70.5mm
Back - Man on horse. I am not sure if this has any significant meaning, like a famous painting, or something else. It may have very little sense just to have a native sitting on a horseback overlooking a valley or town.
